Historic Legacy

The hacienda owes its name to its first owner, the Spaniard Don Juan de Sepúlveda, who received a royal land grant of 171 hectares from the Royal Audience of New Galicia. This gift marked the beginning of what would later become a prosperous agricultural and livestock estate.

A Heritage Passed Down Through Generations

Hotel Hacienda Sepúlveda is located along the historic Camino Real to Zacatecas. Throughout its history, the hacienda hosted several meetings both before and during the Mexican War of Independence. It is said that Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla and other key insurgent leaders visiting the region gathered here.

Local historians also recount that during the Mexican Revolution, the hacienda was occupied by Pancho Villa, as it was a strategic stop along the Camino Real between Lagos de Moreno and Zacatecas. In what is now the Don Toribio Master Suite, one can still see the remnants of a secret escape route leading to the rooftop.
